梯(ELEVA)

This viewing device made of three discarded elevator boxes is an act of thankfulness to the Porcelain city and its people. Deng’s pieces are to be seen from one of the boxes and manipulated by a chord mechanism that elevates a group of them, a private spectacle that yields into surprise.

The intervention of Don Tulio Febres Cordero's* monument intended to draw the citizens’ attention to its content, now forgotten by the context. It consisted of a rotating wooden device (installation) operated by two performers (action). Twelve radial stripes were painted on the ground around the monument during a performance that lasted the whole day. Each stripe was prolonged onto the surrounding façades, where cloth banners were pasted on the walls containing written phrases of Don Tulio’s Memorias de un muchacho describing the city at the beginning of the 20th century.

The scenography for the Opera Carmen (2011) was adapted and installed in the open-air theatre in a university campus’ square. It became part of the public art collection of the Alma Mater program of Universidad de Los Andes.

The intervention of Christopher Columbus' monument intended to draw the citizens’ attention to its form, a victim of ideological violence. It consisted of a rotating wooden device (installation) operated by a performer (action). After visiting the glass box in the place of Columbus’ bust, the performer delineated with chalk a large circle on the ground around the monument during a performance of several hours. The sequence of the whole performance was photographed and published in an Instagram account (@dememoria1) that participated live in the III Biennale of Contemporary Art of Mérida.

The presbitery

This liturgical space in a heritage modern building designed by Manuel Mujica Millán* consists of the altar, the painting, the rest of the furniture, the lighting. The theme of the resurection of Jesus Christ was chosen for pedagogical reasons; it was represented by Gómez Callejas using the guadamecil technique. It is the center of the whole space.
*A spanish architect who design the city’s most important buildings in the 1950’s.

The installation was both a device to observe Gómez Callejas' piece "At the tower of the Obradorio" (placed at the entrance porch), and also an intervention of Colin Holyk's house during the 4th anual Block Party.
